Ozil ‘To Quit Arsenal’ For Turkey, USA

Mesut Ozil is ready to quit Arsenal – but not until the summer of 2021.

The German playmaker has been frozen out by boss Mikel Arteta and the club are keen to sell him when the transfer window reopens.

According to The Sun, however, Ozil plans to see out his contract and leave on a free transfer in a year’s time.

He is said to have told friends he will only consider moves to the USA or Turkey.

The midfielder quit international football due to criticism from the public after meeting Turkish president Recep Erdogan and there is claimed to be zero chance he will return to play in the Bundesliga.

Ozil is Arsenal’s highest-paid player, earning a staggering £350,000-a-week, which is one of the reasons why the Gunners are so keen to shift him.

Ever since signing that lucrative deal in 2018, his performances have failed to justify his wages, with the 31-year-old registering just one goal and three assists in 23 appearances this season.

talkSPORT host Georgie Bingham believes the incredible deal Ozil managed to acquire is something club officials will still regret to this day.

“I think it is Arsenal’s biggest mistake of the last 10 years,” she told the Weekend Sports Breakfast.

“Rewarding a player that does no deserve that reward is the stupidest mistake Arsenal have made. Manchester United made it with Alexis Sanchez as well, by the way.

“But the problem with Ozil is the stick to beat him with is the fact that I don’t think he deserved that contract.

“I think Arsenal were really stupid handing it out and it’s something that we beat them with.”
