As Osun joins the rest of the world to welcome the new year, residents of the state have been urged to imbibe the spirit of hard work for prosperity and renew their support for government through adequate payment of their taxes and other levies for the state to move forward, Naijaparry reports.
This is contained in a new year message signed by the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Bola Oyebamiji and made available to journalists by the Information Officer for Ministry of Finance, Mr Kingsley Omoyeni.
While wishing residents of the state a prosperous 2020, the finance Chief stressed that for government to meet the wishes and aspirations of the masses in the new year the people must be willing to pay their taxes and other levies.
Oyebamiji through the statement also called for a positive attitude to work by residents of the state, saying it is only through hard work by the people that government can get its due and for the economy of the state to improve.
The Commissioner stated further through the statement that large economies of the world were built by hardworking and tax paying individuals, stressing that the state of Osun has the potential to be ranked among top in terms of economic growth.
The statement reads in part, “I must first wish every resident of our dear state a happy and prosperous 2020. I pray that the new year will be a successful one for everyone and for the state of Osun in general.
“I want us as a people to see hardwork as the only antidote to poverty. We must shun the idea of any free that comes from any source, 2020 is a year we must all work hard together to improve the economy of our dear state. It demands the impute of everyone of us.
“We must all work and earn money, while earning money, we must have it at the back of our mind to pay our taxes and levies. As citizens, this is the only way we can help government to improve our economy and provide for all the social amenities we crave for.
“We should realize that government can not do it alone, the Adegboyega Oyetola administration is willing and eager to put smiles on the face of the people, but he needs your support and that is through the payment of taxes by the people.
“On behalf of the government of the state of Osun, I wish everyone a happy new year”. Oyebamiji stated.
