Oshiomhole Justifies Obaseki’s Disqualification

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, on Friday said the disqualification of current Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki from the party primaries is in line with the party constitution.

Oshiomhole who have been at loggerheads with Obaseki made the remark while speaking on Channels Television’s Democracy Day special program.

His words: “I can’t comment on it now,” Oshiomhole said. “We are just following our party constitution. We have a screening committee, they turned out a report. And the report is subject to the appeal committee for anyone who chooses to appeal against the findings of the screening committee.

“The purpose of the screening is to take nothing for granted. And until they go through the appeal process, I as the National Chairman cannot comment on it.”

Meanwhile, former Minister of Information, Chief Tony Momoh has reacted to Obaseki’s disqualification by APC Screening Committee.

According to Momoh APC needed to manage its crisis carefully in order not to give the state to the opposition.

The former minister said the disqualification of Obaseki was another serious development which might affect the chances of the party at the polls, if not resolved.

“There is crisis in Edo APC and like I said before, they need to manage the crisis well, otherwise they should not expect the election to be a tea party.

“As for the disqualification of Obaseki, I won’t say much because it is still a party affair. Obaseki is the sitting governor and if his disqualification stays, it might affect the party.

“With what is happening in Edo APC, I think any party can win in the governorship election,” he said.
