No Resumption Date For Unilag Staff, Students – Varsity Authorities

Against the ease of lockdown order announced by the federal government in Ogun, Lagos and the FCT, Abuja, the management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has asked its staff not to resume on Monday, May 4, 2020.

The decision was reached during a meeting held on Tuesday April 28, 2020 where the directive of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, concerning the phased and gradual easing of lockdown measures in the three states was reviewed.

The management, in a statement, signed by the varsity Registrar, Oladejo Azeez, Esq explained that the meeting resolved that members of staff should not resume on Monday, May 4, 2020.

According to the statement, the non-resumption notice was ‘to enable adequate measures to be put in place for a phased resumption’.

The statement read in parts, “Members of Staff are hereby advised to await the Schedule of Resumption of Duty which will be released soonest.

It added, “Meanwhile, Staff on essential duties, such as Works and Physical Planning Unit (Power), Security, as well as Faculty and Hostel Porters should be at their duty posts.

It would be recalled that the Senate of the university had on March 20 complied with an order from the Federal Ministry of Education announcing the closure of the university following the increase of identified cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country.

Consequently, the management directed all students to vacate the hostels, return home and follow precautionary measures.

In addition, staff on CONTISS 1-12 are instructed to stay at home for the initial two weeks lockdown which commenced April Tuesday March 24 to Wednesday April 8, 2010.

Besides, Deans of Faculty, Heads of Department, Directors, Secretaries attached to Principal Officers were instructed to continue to come to the office to keep the University running.
