FPE: Students Union Speaks Up About School Reopening

The Federal Polytechnic, Ede Students Union has react to President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s planned reopening of schools.

In a press released by the union and obtained by ngnews247.com reads below:

Over the past six months of 2020, we have been faced with myriads of socioeconomic turbulence. And here we are today striving hard to overcome them, either through civil obedience or compliance with health safety protocols.

Many have happened within the past six months. To curb the spread of COVID-19, the federal government has ordered the closures of schools throughout the federation; perhaps to curb the spread of the pandemic.

Despite weeks of lockdown and closure of schools, the pandemic has continued to spread like kerosene fire. Either genuine or not, as a Union, we implore our ever reasonable Nigerian students to stay safe and adhere strictly to safety precautions.

We implore you to use your nose covers accordingly. Keep social distancing. And sanitize your hands when and where necessary.

As our members long for the reopening of the school, we share the feelings of our members and wish the resumption can come in no distant time. But, we accept, quite authoritatively that our lives matter. And when we are still living, there’s every other possibility. Our lives matter more than the reopening of the school. And our lives matter more than the school itself.

We understand that school is part of our life and future endeavors. On this note, we charge the government to put reopening of schools into consideration. And before it can be implemented at all, necessary health and safety materials must have been made available for schools. So that if there would be resumption at all, the chances of contacting any disease would be minimal or even inexistent.

We wish our fellow Nigerian students happy new month. This shall be a month of our progress, greatness, success, sound health and uncommon favor.

The Students Union Government of the Federal Polytechnic Ede under the leadership of Mallam (Comrade) Ajibade Quazeem Adekunle socially baptized as KAZYWHITE implores greatest Nigerian students to remain reliably committed to their safety, security, law and order. Let’s stay out of trouble and comport ourselves responsibly and responsively.
