Fedepe Exam Extension Update: Outcome Of Management Meeting

Naijaparry earlier reported that the student union and faculties presidents will meet with the management today on request for the extension of the first semester examination date.

Here outcome of the meeting according to student union press release:

“We have a duty that is clear in purpose and we have never for once diverted from our duty which is securing and protecting the interests of the students. With respect to our values and tradition of our union that is always in support of the majority in reacting to issues or taking actions; together with union officials, we resolved to conduct a survey to sample the opinions of the students on arguments about shifting of examination dates.

We organised two surveys, one was monitored by FPE Press while the other was supervised by union officials. The early study revealed that students who were ready to conduct examination as at the time of the survey were much more than number of students who clamoured for the shifting of examination dates.

Few days to the commencement of examinations, we started recieving complains from all quarters that the examination should be postponed. Non-completion of courses, assignments, tests and postponed academic activities are factors that should be considered.

As union officials, we met with concerned authorities and sister unions to resolve this issue. You can not seperate swiftness and alertness from our great union. The president of the Students’ union led presidents of faculty associations to the management and we met with the rector of the institution where we discussed the shifting of examination dates among other issues.

After consultation with concerned bodies, they informed us that our complains and arguments for postponement came late. We appealed for postponement but the meeting ended without compromise.

As we took it up again today by calling upon the intervention of the staffs to the students agitation and the chairman of ASUP honored our demands and joined us to appeal to the management led by Dr J.T Adekolawole. After hours of intellectual engagement with the rector in the presence of Dean student affairs, ASUP chairman and all union executives, a compromise was reached and all parties agreed that the examination should be postponed for just a day so that all the students that are yet to complete their registration would be able to do so on Tuesday.

The one day postponement is not enough though we still appreciate the good gesture of the management.

We appreciate the Dean, students affairs and ASUP chairman for their solidarity.

We urge students to remain calm, read and prepare very well for this examination and appeal to managements and staffs of the Polytechnic community to work hand in hand with students and necessary quarters to avoid unnecessary distractions and delays.

Thank You.
