COVID-19: Residents berate Osun Govt over plans to impose fresh lockdown

Residents of Osun State have berated the Gboyega Oyetola-led administration over plans to impose fresh lockdown due to the rising number of coronavirus cases.

The State’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Rafiu Isamotu had on Friday threatened that the government might be forced to impose another lockdown if residents continue to flout the lockdown relaxation guidelines.

The residents who took to social networking platforms to chide the State Government, said they are yet to recover from the previous lockdown which lasted for a month.

Some of the users asked the Government of Osun to take a cue from the administration of Seyi Makinde in neighbouring Oyo State. They said Oyo did not enforce any lockdown and were able to control the spread of the deadly virus.

Others who criticised the plan, said it is a bad move that will bring the worst out in people because they are not ready for any fresh lockdown.

One of the users said “I swear to almighty God, if Government announce a fresh, I will beat some Amotekun, Vigilante or any security that stop me if I am going somewhere”

Another user, Oluyari Oludavies however advised the government to find ways of curbing the spread, he said “Osun Govt should be careful the way they are handling this pandemic season. They should think outside the box and provide an alternative means to reduce the spread”.

If the government goes ahead to impose a fresh lockdown, it is however unclear if the government will provide palliatives to the residents as this formed the basis of some of the expressions as seen on social media.
